The image is an illustration from the story, The Boy who was Never Afraid. A boy goes into the forest to find his lost cow, which was stolen by a troll. Since he is never afraid, he is able to befriend the vicious creatures he encounters and, with their help, he frees the cow! 

Originally published in the 1912 edition of Among Gnomes and Trolls.
