Welcome to the world of John Bauer
The life of Swedish painter and illustrator John Bauer (1882 - 1918) was cut far too short - but his enchanting works live on. Our mission is to keep his legacy alive and help his work meet new audiences.
We try to keep the prints as close to the size of the original paintings as possible. Our gallery is constantly changing, with new motifs added and others removed. So, if you see something you like, be sure to get it while it is still available.
JOHN BAUER TROLL MUG
This illustration was originally published in 1913 and is titled "In the Christmas Night" and shows a group of trolls on parade through the serene and dark Christmas night.
We thought it would make a beautiful mug so here it is!
JOHN BAUER (1882 - 1918)
No artist has ever captured the magic and mystique of Swedish and Scandinavian nature as John Bauer did. His illustrations of fairy-tale creatures have captivated generations all over the world, and especially those with roots in Scandinavia.
His life was cut far too short. He and his wife, along with their young son, perished when the ship S/S Per Brahe sank tragically in a November storm on Lake Vättern in 1918. John was only 36 years old.
But his illustrations are still very much alive. Today, more than a hundred years after they were created, they continue to mesmerize audiences with their sublime beauty.
Our mission is to keep the legacy of John Bauer alive and help spread his works to new audiences all over the world. His magical world inspired us as children, and still does, and we want to share that feeling with as many people as possible.
